The ΕΝΙΑ Gallery presents on Friday, 18 May 2018 the group show “Sublime and Repress”, curated by Alexander Mood.
The name of this show Sublime and Repress, taken from the work of Sigmund Freud "Civilization and its Discontents" ("Das Unbehagen in Der Kultur “), has work as a theme for this exhibition sorting for the artist to use as a inspiration in the process of selected work for the exertion exhibition.
Sigmund Freud' book was published in 1929. In this work Freud explores the clash between the desire for individuality and the expectations of society. As the title implies we are constantly unhappy, trapped in the gap. In the book Freud enumerates what he sees as the fundamental tension between civilisation and the individual. The primary conflict, he asserts, comes from the individual´s quest for instinctive freedom and civilisation's contrary demand for conformity.
It is of special significance that this group show of international artists takes place in Athens since this is where most of us met and connected as a group through mutual interest. To explore and approach new ways of working with art almost like a discourse between us by making art.
The theme of the exhibition has been interpreted differently: as inspiration for example Annelie Wallin (SWE), Amélie Laurence Fortin (CAN), Juje Collective (CAN), and Petri Saarikko/Aukea (FIN) present work in different ways from a anthropocentric viewpoint; Dan Lageryd (SWE) has in juxtaposition chosen to work with urben fastfood culture;
Ella Tahkolahti (FIN) and Hanna Marno (FIN) work much more directly with the basic theme of sublim and repress, Mathieu Valade (CAN) works with art and the artist's role; Artemis Potamianou (GRE) has looked at the muse, women's perspective and role in art history; Alexander Mood (SWE) takes a more existential and personal approach.

Η ΕΝΙΑ Gallery παρουσιάζει την Παρασκευή 18 Μαΐου 2018 την ομαδική έκθεση «Sublime and Repress» σε επιμέλεια του Αlexander Mood.
Ο τίτλος της έκθεσης, Sublime and Repress (Ανύψωση και Καταστολή), εμπνευσμένος από το έργο του Sigmund Freud «Ο Πολιτισμός και οι Δυσαρέσκειες του» ("Das Unbehagen in Der Kultur “), περιλαμβάνει έργα επιλεγμένα από το καλλιτέχνη με βάση την έμπνευση της διαδικασίας για την πραγματοποίηση της έκθεσης.
Το βιβλίο του Sigmund Freud εκδόθηκε το 1929. Μέσα από το έργο του εξερευνά τη σύγκρουση μεταξύ της επιθυμίας για ατομικότητα και τις προσδοκίες της κοινωνίας. Όπως υπονοεί και ο τίτλος, είμαστε μονίμως δυστυχισμένοι, παγιδευμένοι στο ενδιάμεσο κενό. Στο βιβλίο του ο Freud εξετάζει αυτό που θεωρεί ως τη θεμελιώδη ένταση μεταξύ του πολιτισμού και του ατόμου. Η πρωταρχική σύγκρουση, όπως ισχυρίζεται, προέρχεται από την αναζήτηση του ατόμου για την ελευθερία του ενστίκτου και της αντίθετης απαίτησης του πολιτισμού για συμμόρφωση.
Το γεγονός ότι η ομαδική αυτή έκθεση λαμβάνει χώρα στην Αθήνα έχει ιδιαίτερη σημασία γιατί εδώ συναντηθήκαμε για πρώτη φορά και συνδεθήκαμε ως ομάδα μέσω των κοινών ενδιαφερόντων μας.
Η εξερεύνηση και η προσέγγιση νέων τρόπων να δουλεύουμε με τη τέχνη είναι σχεδόν σαν μια συζήτηση μεταξύ μας δια μέσου της καλλιτεχνικής δημιουργίας.
Το θέμα της έκθεσης έχει ερμηνευτεί διαφορετικά: για παράδειγμα, ως έμπνευση όπου οι Annelie Wallin (SWE), Amélie Laurence Fortin (CAN), Juje Collective (CAN), and Petri Saarikko/Aukea (FIN) παρουσιάζουν έργα με διαφορετικούς τρόπους από ανθρωποκεντρική άποψη; σε αντιπαράθεση, ο Dan Lageryd (SWE) έχει επιλέξει να δουλέψει με την αστική κουλτούρα του «fastfood».
Η Ella Tahkolahti (FIN) και η Hanna Marno (FIN) δουλεύουν πιο άμεσα με το βασικό θέμα της ανύψωσης και καταστολής, ενώ ο Mathieu Valade (CAN) δουλεύει με την τέχνη και το ρόλο του καλλιτέχνη; Η Άρτεμις Ποταμιάνου (GRE) έχει στραφεί στη μούσα, την οπτική γωνία και το ρόλο των γυναικών στην ιστορία της τέχνης; ο Alexander Mood (SWE) έχει μια πιο υπαρξιακή και προσωπική προσέγγιση.
